The system will operate in parallel with the utility grid (which provides backup power) to supply either or both of two service/commercial buildings and will feed surplus power into the utility grid. The array consists of fifteen 10-kW carousel-mounted subarrays which are two-axis tracking. The subarrays each consist of 40 passively cooled concentrating modules which incorporate a primary parabolic trough reflector and a secondary compound-elliptic concentrator to achieve a geometric concentration ratio of approx. 26. The power conditioning subsystem is microprocessor controlled, with maximum-power-point tracking and automatic control capabilities. The system performance analysis indicates that the system will supply approximately 147,000 kWh/year to the primary load and an additional 55,000 kWh/year to the utility grid, in the single-load operational mode. The system design and the daily and seasonal match of system output with the load are described in detail. Plans are also discussed for installation and for operational evaluations of performance, economics, and institutional issues.
