High power (approx. 10 GW) short pulse (less than or equal to 1 ns) CO/sub 2/ TEA amplifier [electronic resource]

The performance of a compact, two-stage CO/sub 2/ TEA laser, capable of generating 10-GW subnanosecond pulses, is described. Observed pulses appear to be wider than those predicted by a coherent density-matrix kinetics model.
