Investigation of buried domes. Phase V, Part I, Dynamic characteristics of hemispherical shells / Ronald B. McPherson.
The report deals with an analytical investigation into free axisymmetrical vibrations of thin spherical shells. A detailed development of the Federhofer equations is formulated from the equations for spherical shells as derived from Love's classical bending theory. The formal solution of these...

520 | |a The report deals with an analytical investigation into free axisymmetrical vibrations of thin spherical shells. A detailed development of the Federhofer equations is formulated from the equations for spherical shells as derived from Love's classical bending theory. The formal solution of these equations is then expressed in terms of Legendre functions of complex degree. Some properties of these functions as they apply to this work are discussed. Two computer programs were prepared as a part of this research. The capabilities of these programs, which include determining the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and shell forces, are discussed. The programs are then used to analyze a group of hemispherical domes having radius-to-thickness ratios ranging between 20 and 200. The results of these analyses are presented. (Author) | ||
