Summary: | Oil viscosity (five oils were used) was found to have a significant effect on bearing operating temperature. Minimum bearing temperatures result when a low viscosity, low viscosity-index oil was used. Minimum power rejection tothe oil (at a constant bearing temperature) results when a low viscosity oil is introduced at high inlet temperatures. The cooling correlation previously developed was extended to include fully the effec of varying viscosity. It is therefore possible to predict either inner-race or outer-race bearing temperature from single curves regardless of whether spped, load, oil flow, oil inlet temperature, oil inlet viscosity, oil-jet diameter or any combination of these parameters is varied. |
