Item Description: | Accompanied by a typewritten note: These prints were made from photographs taken by Eadweard J. Muybridge in 1877 and presented to Mrs. Leland Stanford by him at that time. He enlarged his photographs many times, the panorama given to Mrs. Stanford being sixteen feet long. It may be seen in the Rare Books Room in the University Library. The dividing lines in the original panorama are not as marked as in these prints, each photograph fitting into its neighbor to perfection. Historically this panorama is priceless. Practically all of the buildings then standing were destroyed in the earthquake and fire of 1906. Presented to, Dr. George E. Mitzeche, by James P. Leigh. Cover title. Reproduction of the original from the George Eastman House Library. |
