This study explores the effectiveness of a cognitive, nonverbal, visual attention-based training program on improving auditory attention and auditory comprehension skills in people with aphasia (PWA). Two PWA with auditory comprehension deficits were enrolled in a seven-week treatment program consisting of tasks from the Focused and Distributed Attention section of the Problem Solving Treatment Program (2010). Effect sizes were calculated to measure the degree of change in the participant's auditory comprehension skills. Significant improvement in both auditory attention and auditory comprehension was found in the participant with moderate auditory comprehension deficits and adequate cognitive skills. The second participant, who presented with more severe cognitive and auditory comprehension deficits, did not experience significant improvements."--Page iii.
