| 520 | |a The Pluralistic Assessment Project, which has been funded for three years by the National Institute of Mental Health, was developed in response to the results of earlier studies on the epidemiology of mental retardation. During 1963 and 1964, data were gathered for a comprehensive epidemiology of mental retardation in the City of Riverside, California. It was found that the criteria for classification of persons as mentally retarded varied as a function of sociocultural group. Two follow-up studies involved a clinical epidemiology on 3000 households and a survey of 241 agencies, as to the classification procedures used to classify persons as mentally retarded. The present project will produce an Adaptive Behavior Inventory for Children standardized on representative samples of Anglo, Mexican-American, and black public school children, five through 11 years of age, which can be used to assess a child's performance in non-academic roles using socioculturally relevant norms. The project will produce socioculturally relevant norms on the 1973 edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children for use with Anglo, Mexican-American, and black children. The project will also produce a Health History and Impairment Inventory standardized on a representative sample of Anglo, Mexican-American, and black children. (Author/JM) | ||
