520 | |a This second of a series of papers evaluating the Parent/Child Program describes the procedure used to decide whether the nine toys and their accompanying learning episodes are appropriate for use by young children in the Parent/Child context. Parents in four courses (Preliminary and Performance Test Situations) were given instructions on how to present the toys and the associated learning experiences to their children. One toy was presented each week and, at the end of that time, each parent filled out a questionnaire on the child's interest in the toy. To be kept as a part of the Parent/Child Course, a toy (or task) had to hold the interest of 80% of the children. Loss of interest because of mastery of the task did not count. In addition, during the week in which any given toy was presented, the child had to play with the toy more than five times, at least once without the parent suggesting it. Descriptions of toys, criteria for evaluation and a table of test results and decisions on the nine educational toys is included. PS 004 021 is another report in this series. (NH) | ||
