Summary:This document reports the results of a federally supported program, the Western Region Faculty Institute for Training in Colorado, to train college faculty to conduct inservice training in early intervention with infants and toddlers (birth-to-3) at risk for or with disabilities. A "training of trainers" model was used. The program developed a variety of materials and conducted training of several thousand faculty from 33 higher education institutions in 13 states and 4 Pacific Basin jurisdictions. Activities included: assessing the needs and resources of faculty in the higher education system; promoting communication and leadership among faculty in their state/jurisdiction; providing training and technical assistance to faculty leadership teams; fostering coordination with State lead agencies under Part H of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act; and supporting the capacity of faculty to conduct inservice training. The training incorporated best practices such as family-centered community-based services and coordination among disciplines. The conceptual framework for the program is discussed and a description of the program model with the major components of the project is provided. Methodological or logistical problems are discussed. Evaluation findings are identified and the project's impact evaluated. A list of products and publications from the project is provided, with information on how to obtain the materials. Information is provided on the dissemination activities of the project, implications of the project's findings, and future activities. A detailed description of the mini-grant projects, demographic data, and a Year 3 summary of planning teams is attached. (CR)
