It suggests other sources for material and support, such as religious groups and industrial organizations. Designed for use in preservice or inservice teacher education, the unit emphasizes teacher responsibility to learn about, stay in touch with, and share information about issues and resources in migrant education. The unit discusses identifying/recruiting migrant children and provides a basic interview pattern for determining migrant education program eligibility. It discusses the Migrant Student Record Transfer System and the migrant educator's role in making the system work. Other described programs include National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME), High School Equivalency Program/College Assistance Migrant Program (HEP/CAMP), Portable Assisted Study Sequence (PASS), Challenging Options in Career Education (CHOICE), Migrant Education Resource List and Information Network (MERLIN), East Coast Farmworkers Support Network, and National Migrant Worker Council.
