An introductory section stresses that success in obtaining financial aid is a combination of having the right information and the right "attitude" (reflecting the traits of aggressiveness, timeliness, tenacity, inquisitiveness, thoroughness, understanding, deliberativeness, and efficiency). Separate sections describe eligibility criteria to qualify for federal financial aid, how to equate demonstrated financial need, the application process, and differences between types of financial aid (grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans). A financial aid checklist is provided to keep track of application forms, application deadlines, dates forms were to be mailed, and responses. Other sections contain a directory of state financial aid and Guaranteed Student Loan offices; a listing of 27 undergraduate and 11 graduate private scholarships and fellowship programs for minorities in engineering with their requirements and contact addresses; and 16 sources of additional information about applying for financial aid.
