The various sections of the guide present (1) a comprehensive list of study skills that overlap both reading and library skills; (2) guidelines related to the student's study environment, study schedule, and organization of notes; (3) guidelines and strategies for developing listening skills; (4) various formats for outlining and organizing information in any of the content areas; (5) note taking techniques to use in the classroom or with a textbook; (6) procedures for survey reading of a general text, fiction, a newspaper, and, more specifically, social studies texts; (7) the Preview, Question, Read, Recite, Reflect, Review (PQ4R) study method and its application to a science reading assignment; (8) methods for introducing and teaching vocabulary in the content areas; and (9) test taking techniques.
