Summary: | These materials for planning a developmental curriculum are designed to be presented in a workshop format, by trainers, for caregivers of young children. Contents of the workshop modules focus on gross motor development, perceptual-motor development, woodworking, preschool math and science, cooking, rhythm and music, and socio-dramatic play. A section of most modules relates the topic discussed to preschool education. Each of the seven sets of workshop materials includes many aids for the trainer, including training objectives, factual material, suggestions for presenting the material, resource articles, follow-up ideas, and handouts which may be reproduced for participants. The module on gross motor development, for example, has the following subsections: preparing the workshop, the presentation, gross motor activities in the preschool, resources for the trainer and appendices providing a questionnaire and a checklist. A product of collaboration by the School of Education, University of Michigan, and the City of Ann Arbor, these materials are considered appropriate for self-instruction, child development associate training, or courses at high school, junior college or university levels.
