The report covers such topics as: textbooks and references being used; courses in theory; training given in alignment, posture, and body shape; the amount of time spent in classes on relaxation and limbering; how breathing is taught; when sound production is initiated; when and how resonance is taught; exploration of range, head voice, and falsetto; the use of the scream, cry, and laugh; the speech standards that are prevalent; use of the bone prop; when and how dialect work is done; the use of text work; the combining of voice and movement; how singing is taught; vocal routines expected outside the classroom; common problems the instructors encounter; how vocal progress is assessed; how the schools conduct auditions; administrative particulars of the schools studied; and what personal approaches to instruction the teachers used even though many had similar training backgrounds themselves.
