Description
Summary:This report documents the conduct and results of activities to evaluate the first offering of The Consumer Experience to adult learners through the State University of Nebraska (SUN). A project of the University of Nebraska, SUN is a nontraditional, open learning program designed to extend postsecondary educational opportunities to persons who find it difficult to access traditional campus-based programs. As of Spring 1975, SUN was the only operational delivery system in the University of Mid-America consortium. The Consumer Experience is a course designed to assist the learner in understanding and solving many common consumer problems. It consists of 30 half-hour television programs, two texts, a student learning guide, and a newspaper lesson overview, appearing each Sunday throughout the course in "The Omaha World-Herald." The television component carries the major portion of the instructional content for the course. This report presents a brief overview of several factors: (1) a profile of enrolled learners; (2) course completion and learner examination performance; (3) learners' evaluation of the course; and (4) general conclusions and implications, although relationships among the data are not shown.
