520 |a From July 1977 through June 1978, 2,283 students graduated from the Hawaii community college system, an increase of 12% over the previous year's total. During this period, 2,671 degrees and certificates were awarded; 108 graduates earned two diplomas and two earned three; 30% of the degrees were Associate in Arts (AA), 51% Associate in Science (AS), and 20% Certificates of Achievement (CA). In addition to AA, AS, and CA degrees, several campuses awarded Certificates of Completion (143) to those who completed certain skill courses for immediate employment or job upgrading. Analysis by program showed the 10 programs with the greatest number of graduates were liberal arts (783), accounting and secretarial science (165 each), clerical (157), practical nursing (108), auto mechanics technology (99), mid-management/merchandising-management (85), food services (84), police science (76), and drafting (62). Systemwide, 52% of graduates were male, although females comprised 90% of health program and 99% of secretarial/clerical program graduates; 88% of technology program graduates were male as compared with 92% during the previous year. Analysis by campus showed considerable fluctuations in the number of yearly graduates. Tables and charts indicating graduation rates for 1973-74 through 1977-78 and the number of graduates by program for 1977-78 are appended. (TR)
