Description
Summary:Presented is an experimental outline of a program designed to teach basic skills needed for word-recognition and understanding, in addition to other aspects of total reading skill. Part i presents components of sequential learning in reading skills, consisting of word perception, word identification, word meaning, comprehension, critical reading and good study habits. Each skill is presented in its respective section, and basic skills contributing to that skill are outlined. In part ii, skills are presented in the order in which they should be taught. A sequential outline is presented covering skills to be attained before grade one through the seventh grade. Specific teaching technIQues are suggested regarding each of the particular skills to be reviewed at each grade level. Part iii presents an informal teacher-made diagnostic test designed to test the degree of student achievement with each skill. The test is designed to supplement the Iowa basic skills test, used only to test vocabulary and reading comprehension.
