| Summary: | Results of Metropolitan Life Foundation's Educational Awards for Institutional Self-Study program are provided. The objective of the program was to help four-year colleges and universities conduct studies on key problems and opportunities. Of the 546 institutions that submitted proposals, 28 were awarded grants totalling $227,600. The purpose and results of the 28 self-studies are reported, along with the name of the project director and the amount of the grant. The proposals covered the following categories: resource allocation and planning; curriculum review and development; physical development and resource centers; advising and support services; needs (not purely academic) of specific groups; and market research, admissions, and public relations. Over the 3 years of the awards program, prominent issues were the need for long-range planning, the importance of market research, and the desirability of developing physical and academic resources. Criteria for judging the proposals included originality, the competence of staff, the reasonableness of the plan for the institution, and the applicability to other institutions.
