Summary: | Longitudinal data are presented relating to Bakersfield College (BC) students who transferred to public four-year colleges and universities. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) first-time transfers from BC to the California State University and College (CSUC) system increased by 19.4% from fall 1987 to fall 1988, the highest since the inception of the transfer study; (2) total numbers to transfer to Cal-State Bakersfield (CSB) increased from 243 to 295, the highest since 1975; (3) first-time transfers to the University of California (UC) system decreased from 27 to 19 from fall 1987 to fall 1988, the lowest since the inception of the transfer study; (4) a greater percentage of female students than male students were transferring; (5) though CSU figures represented a slight increase in percentages of minorities to transfer, particularly of Hispanics, in comparison to the BC student percentages, more White and Asian students, and fewer Black and Hispanic students transferred; (6) the most popular majors at CSB were business and liberal studies, while the primary majors at Cal-State Fresno (CSF) were agriculture, business, engineering, and industrial arts; and (7) 47.4% of students who transferred to CSB in fall 1988 achieved a grade point average of 3.0 to 4.0, the highest since 1972. Sixteen data tables are attached. (JMC) |
