Description
Summary:Results for grade 12 are represented for the April 11-13, 1989 administration of the New Jersey High School Proficiency Test (HSPT), a requirement for high school graduation for New Jersey students. The test is initially given in grade 9. Data are provided for 762 12th-grade students who were taking the test for the first time or were repeating the test because of previous failure. After 23 preliminary data tables, 25 pages of tables present results for reading, mathematics, and writing by District Factor Group (DFG), urban district, and Regional Curriculum Services Unit region. District-by-district and school-by-school results are grouped by DFG. The DFG is an indicator of the socioeconomic status of the students in each district. Scores exclude special education and limited English-proficient students and those whose answer folders were voided. Overall, 84.2% of the 215 12th graders who completed the reading section passed it; 53.6% of the 549 12th graders who completed the mathematics section passed it; and 67.0% of the 345 12th graders who completed both the essay and multiple-choice components of the writing section passed it.
