| 520 | |a This report analyzes the distribution of immigrants in Neighborhood Development Areas (NDAs) and other Community Districts of New York, New York based on the 1980 U.S. Census. A Community District is designated as an NDA by the Community Development Agency (CDA) if more than 20,000 of its residents are recipients of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Home Relief, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Community Districts are also designated as NDAs if they contain at least 15,000 public assistance recipients who make up more than 15 percent of the total district population. A distinction is made between immigrants who arrived in this country before 1965, and "new immigrants," who arrived since 1965. Findings include the following: (1) immigrants are present in large and small proportions in NDAs, indicating that in general their presence is not linked to NDA designation; (2) "new immigrants" tend to live in NDAs; (2) pre-1965 immigrants tend to live in non-NDA neighborhoods; (3) the immigrant groups with the highest proportions residing in NDAs are Dominicans (91.6 percent), Cubans (71 percent), Jamaicans (67.8 percent), and other West Indians (64.6 percent); and (4) the immigrant groups least likely to reside in NDAs are Italian (33.9 percent), Czech (35.6 percent), and Hungarians (37.6 percent).
