Summary: | The graduate student orientation program conducted at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is described, and supplementary orientation materials are provided. The orientation program incorporates the following thrusts: instructional and research programming, personal and professional development, departmental programming, social interaction, and activities for spouses and partners. In addition to describing these components, information is provided on the selection and roles of the following program staff: the director, assistant director, coordinators, and orientation leaders. The budget and evaluation of the program are also briefly addressed. Appended materials include: a 28-page orientation program booklet that includes descriptions of the orientation sessions; information on departmental programming; an orientation program coordinator rating form and information on evaluation criteria; position descriptions for orientation staff; a proposed timeline for implementing a graduate student orientation program; evaluation forms for orientation program sessions; spouse-partner program evaluation forms; an orientation program evaluation form for graduate students; and an evaluation form for leader training.
