Description
Summary:This publication presents an overview of adolescent pregnancy, including national and state statistical information; funding sources for teen pregnancy prevention programs; examples of the effects of teen pregnancy prevention on society; illustrations of teenagers' perspectives on the issue; recent developments and initiatives in the arena of teen pregnancy prevention; and examples of programs that have been implemented across the states. An overview explains that teen birth rates are down for the first time in more than 10 years, but the United States still has higher teen pregnancy rates than any other industrialized nation. The overview notes that prevention efforts make a significant difference. Stories from several teenage parents emphasize the complexities and difficulties of being teen parents. A listing of national resources that exist to help federal, state, and local policymakers better understand the issue of adolescent pregnancy is presented. The resource listings include a description of the organization and contact information. (SM)
