520 |a This document is the program evaluation of the associate of Arts Degree in Holmes Community College (Mississippi) that was completed in 2001. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools mandate the evaluation so that all colleges have the opportunity to evaluate themselves and use the results of the evaluation to improve instruction. The academic department chairs and the Office for Academic Programs initiated the project. The focus of the project is on academic core courses. The evaluation began with the administration of tests in the following areas: (1) reading and writing; (2) oral communication; (3) mathematics; (4) natural sciences; (5) general chemistry II and physical sciences; (6) social/behavior science, humanities, and fine arts: Sociology; (7) social/behavior science, humanities, and fine arts: music appreciation; (8) social/behavior science, humanities, and fine arts: visual art; and (9) computer science. After the data was organized, the faculty located the areas with the lowest scores and activities were written to improve these student outcomes with the greatest deficiencies. The overall goal of the report is to improve the academic educational program at Holmes Community College through self-evaluation that leads to future improvements. Contains numerous tables.
